Positioning

Отвара за Чар — the can with its original illustration

Positioning is the place a brand holds in the customer's mind relative to every other option they have. It is a decision about what not to be as much as about what to be — a territory you can defend, instead of competing everywhere.

How good positioning is found

We look for it from two sides at once. Competitive analysis shows where everyone is crowding and where there is open space. Personas show which of those open spaces actually matter to the people you want to sell to.

Good positioning sits where three things meet: the place is free, it matters to the customer, and the business can hold it every day. If one of the three is missing, you have a slogan, not a position. And a business that tries to be for everyone ends up being for no one. Positioning is not an advertising campaign — it is an internal decision that every material then communicates in its own way.

How to check that it's clear

The check is simple: are you speaking your customer's language or not? The job is not to sound clever, but to explain what you do and why you are valuable to the right people, in the simplest way possible.

Try saying it in one sentence to someone outside your industry: what you do, for whom, and why you rather than the alternative. If the sentence needs an "and also", the positioning isn't clear yet.

What it looks like when it works

When the positioning is clear, every next decision — a new name, a new product line, a new market — comes with confidence instead of guesswork.

Отвара за Чар is the second craft beer from Plovdiv brewery Birodei, after Отвара за Щастие. The task was twofold: the new beer had to stand on its own on the shelf without breaking away from the line of ideas inspired by role-playing games like Dungeons & Dragons. Its position is inside the brand's own universe — the name, the original illustration and the photo shoot balance the magic of the name against the bold character of the craft scene. So the beer earns its own place on the shelf and extends Birodei's world instead of competing with it.

It is the decision the whole brand strategy stands on.
