Brand promise

Berenica — the brand's promise: "Regain your Joy of Living"

A brand promise is what a brand commits will happen every time someone comes into contact with it. It is not a mission and not a slogan: the mission says why you exist, the slogan is the short phrase next to the logo, and the promise is a commitment to the customer — one or two simple sentences that have to be true every day.

What makes a promise good

A good promise is simple — it fits in a sentence. Achievable — the customer can check it in practice. Different — it doesn't sound like the competitor's promise. And inspiring — it creates an emotional bond rather than just listing benefits.

It avoids four traps:

  • generalities — anyone can promise "excellent service";
  • talking about yourself — a list of achievements instead of what you change in the customer's life;
  • empty poetry — plain language sounds more sincere than ornate language;
  • embellishing the truth — don't promise what you can't deliver.

When the promise outgrows reality

When promises are bigger than what the customer gets, the brand falls into a cycle of idealisation and disappointment. It erodes trust and drives up the cost of keeping customers. In the 1980s Ford promised "Quality is Job 1", and its customers answered with "Found On Road Dead".

The opposite works too. When a brand keeps its promise and adds a little on top, you get the pleasant surprise that makes customers loyal. It comes when we stop giving people only what they want and look into what they really need.

What it looks like in practice

Berenica is a CBD oil brand founded by a woman, for women, in a category that is hard to trust in Bulgaria. Its promise fits in one sentence: "Regain your Joy of Living". The brand had to balance its promise against the science of the results behind it. That is why the packaging is calm and informative, with a clear hierarchy of information — the promise stands on what the customer can read and check.

The promise is formulated as part of the brand strategy.
