Secondary graphic elements
Secondary elements are everything that carries the brand beyond its logo — the icons on the website, the textures on the packaging, the illustrations on social media. A brand doesn't live in the logo alone: they are the language that connects all these places into one consistent experience — and the reason a brand is recognisable even when the mark isn't in the frame. From the subtle texture on a pack to the finely polished icons of an interface, secondary elements are what separate acceptable design from design in a category of its own.
The test is simple: take the mark out of the frame. If it is still clear whose brand it is, the secondary elements have done their job.
They carry the weight exactly where the logo doesn't fit or would be intrusive — in the backgrounds of an interface, in the cut of a label, in the rhythm of a shop window. At The Gentle Crafts, the visual system rests on an emblem and repeating elements, not on one logo placed on everything.
